You are probably all experiencing difficulties to get up in the morning and start the day, no matter that the phone alarm keeps ringing or your children are already expecting breakfast. The reason for this is scientifically proven and confirmed by Dr. Paul Kelley from the Oxford University.
He explains that it is unnatural for the human organism to get up before 10 o’clock in the morning. That is why most employees simply cannot be so effective very early in the morning. It is a sort of torture.
This is how Dr. Kelley explains this in an interview for the National Post:
When people are younger than 55 years of age, their circadian clock is not synchronized with the normal working hours that most people have, and this seriously affects the quality of work, the mental condition of the person and the mood in general.
Dr. Kelly suggests that it would be generally more effective to make a global shift of the working time and the time school starts in order to be able to synchronize with our natural body clock.
According to some studies, 10-year-old children would find it very difficult to concentrate on school activities before 8:30 in the morning. This limit is 10:00 am for teenagers and 11:00 am for college and university students.
According to Dr. Kelley, only a slight postponing of the morning activities may result in improved grades by approximately 10%. What is important about this discovery is that Dr. Kelly personally experiences the effects of this theory while he himself was working as a teacher. The grades improved significantly (as much as 19%) when the academic activities started after 10 am.
This is not beneficial only for the students, but for the teachers as well, because the staff also experiences similar difficulties with their work. The research shows that workers can start work early, starting from 8 or 9 am after they turn 55.
Furthermore, Dr. Kelley added that most people in this modern age are sleep-deprived. This causes severe emotional and physical stress on the organism and it is very dangerous in the long run.
Every process has its cycle and this is something one should respect. By impairing this cycle, we expose our organism to damage due to its abnormal functioning. Simply put, we do not respect the needs of our body and it returns with side effects. This makes sleep deprivation a torture. So have this in mind and seriously consider this article, because long, healthy and happy life is what we all need.
